Every encounter is special. Wonder people. Wonderful cats. And wonderful books of all kinds to choose from.
If it had only happened once with one employee, I wouldn't have posted anything but this was twice with two separate employees. I have never once been treated so rudely or denied access due to my service animal. If this cat is so aggressive and dangerous I truly don't understand why it is allowed to stay. Besides the cat, the staffs' customer service was terrible. I don't know how this business could possibly survive when they treat people this way especially in a small town.
I was really excited at their policy on book buying so I got a bag of books together and went back this afternoon. As soon as I showed up I saw the orange cat laying in the window. I got the woman's attention behind the counter and she waved at me to come in so I slowly opened the door. The cat freaked out hissing and swatting at my service dog and I. The lady started yelling at me that I needed to leave I wasn't welcome. I calming explained through the glass that he was a service dog (even though once again he had his vest on) and that I had been there saturday and it was ok as long as the cat was put up in the back room. She looked me right in the eye and locked the door pointing for me to leave and saying that she wasn't going to put the cat up. I explained to her that the way she was treating us was against the law and she said she didn't care. She then got on the phone and when she hung up she grabbed cat treats and led the cat towards the back. When she came back she flicked the door unlocked and stormed back behind the counter. Did't open the door for us, didn't apologized just glared at us. I was so stunned I just stood there with my massive bag of books. I was so upset that I just left even though I had fully intended to browse and pick up some more books.
Nice store, has good selection of various subject matter, easy to find. Has accounts you can set up to sell books back or use for trade ins. Friendly and helpful staff.
I love shopping for used books here. Friendly staff, very helpful. You can also sell your uaes books for store credit.
I visit often. Wide selection of books and the owner is knowledgeable about the books and can recommend new authors. Love this place.
I am not typically one to post about a poor experience but this has happened two times now and I am extremely disappointed. I am an avid reader and I am always looking for something new to read as I typically finish a book a day. Amazon used books are always significantly cheaper than anywhere else but I love the atmosphere of a good used bookstore and to me its worth spending twice as much on a book. Needless to say I was extremely excited to discover that we have a used book store called "A Novel Idea" at 2019 E Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL 34470. I live on the total opposite side of town so I waited for a day off to make my first visit. I have a fully certified service dog that goes with me everywhere. On Saturday afternoon (09/30/2017) I, my service dog, and my boyfriend went to check the place out. My serve dog was wearing his bright red vest which clearly indicated he is a service dog and he was directly at my side when we walked through the door. Immediately upon entering the woman behind the counter started yelling at us. She said "You can't bring him in here. I know he's probably a seeing eye dog or whatever but he needs to go or you can't stay." I calmly told her that she could not legally kick him out as he was a certified and to do so would violate federal law. I also explained the law to her. Letting her know that a business was only allowed to ask if he was a service animal and what service he was trained to provide." She replied "yeah well we have cats." I told her that I have a cat at home and he does just fine. He is friendly to all animals. She continued to be rude with me saying that if I chose to stay it wasn't her fault if the psycho orange cat attacked us. I was completely shell shocked at the treatment. My boyfriend wanted to leave as he was pretty furious about it too but I told him maybe she was having a bad day. When I started browsing books she made a big show of shutting the orange cat up in the back room. I ended up buying just under $60 worth of books that day and as I was checking out she explained the book buying process to me as well as apologized saying she wasn't trying to be rude but the cat was crazy. As long as he was put up when I came in it would be fine.
